Jim Spaloss is a multi-talented artist hailing from the shore area of Central New Jersey. A former student of Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, Jim’s accomplishments include painting, wood carving, sculpture, photography, stained glass, graphic design and even the art of blacksmithing. Jim entered the world of lampworking, working glass with a torch, about eight years ago. Since then he has concentrated almost exclusively on creating works of art in the form of glass beads and sculptures. Jim is passionate about the challenge of shaping hot glass, often compared to “sculpting with honey”. He unabashedly confesses, “I have become addicted to this molten glass media. Unlike sculpting in wood or stone, it's challenging because you are one step removed; you can't form it with your fingers or run your hand over an area to check for smoothness, until it's too late.” Jim also enjoys experimenting with the alchemy of the various glass products, using temperature control and fuming techniques to coax unique colors into each finished piece. With a seemingly endless world of possibilities in glass artistry ahead of him, Jim sees no end in sight for his delightful addiction
